The 2021 Grammys Red Carpet Prepared us for Spring
It came with no surprise that the 63rd Grammy Awards show was a little different. In light of the pandemic, the show’s red carpet included a mixture of in-person and at-home high fashion looks.
Each celebrity brought something new, yet many dressed in response to a fast-approaching spring season. There were 3 common categories, all classifying the best looks on the carpet and highlighting this seasonal change: Bold & Bright, Intricate Florals, and All-Black Elegance. Keep reading to see which category your favorite celebrities’ looks fell into.
Bold & Bright
A display of high fashion, the Grammys red carpet is never anything short of bright and bold fashion choices; however, this year’s attendees made even bolder and daring decisions. These eye-catching pastels, dazzling designs, and glamorous patterns make up the first category.
Dua Lipa
Decked out in Versace and Bulgari diamonds, Dua Lipa not only won the “Best Pop Vocal Album” Grammy, but she won the red carpet that night. This semi-sheer dress displays a bedazzled butterfly in her torso area, complimenting the upcoming season. She completed her look with adding sparkly jewelry and heels, giving a bolder touch to an already bright and bold look.
Megan Thee Stallion
Beautifully blinding us with this bright orange, Megan stunned in a strapless Dolce&Gabbana gown. This dress featured a dramatic back with an oversized bow detail. It was also paired with matching orange high heels, accented with crystals. Her look wasn’t the only thing we were impressed by, as she took home three Grammys!
Chika
No doubt, “Best New Artist” nominee Chika was the most comfortably dressed. This dope sweatsuit perfectly reflects the current state of fashion: relaxed loungewear. The soft pastel palette countered the structured silhouette of this look consisting of both custom Nike and Versace. Chika displayed a strong dedication to upcoming spring fashion with her unique and fun style.
Ingrid Andress
Ingrid Andress looked drop-dead gorgeous as she strutted out in a Giorgio Armani Privé white suit. Instead of wearing an undershirt, she went for an unconventional crystal-embellished bodysuit, which is perhaps the most eye-catching detail of the outfit. To add to the bling, Ingrid Andress wore diamond earrings from Chopard, a luxury jewelry brand.
Intricate Florals
There is no better way to introduce the spring season than to wear a display of vibrant floral prints. The following celebrities showed up ready for spring, perfectly influencing our upcoming wardrobes. Their flowery designs embodied themes of rejuvenation and re-birth, all ideas we need to embrace coming out of 2020.
Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish never fails to blend high fashion with her own cool style, and she did this effortlessly with a matching Gucci set. Her look consisted of a floral jacquard shirt and wide-leg pants, a bucket hat, mask, and fingerless gloves, all of the same pattern. The double-Grammy winner completed her funky outfit with white leather sneakers. She never disappoints!
Taylor Swift
“Album of the Year” winner Taylor Swift perfectly displayed springtime, as she walked out covered in floral appliqués. Her long-sleeve Oscar de la Renta dress was paired with pink Christian Louboutin heels with ankle box details. If you look closely, you can see Swift completed this look by adding small, simple drop earrings.
Anderson .Paak
Diving into menswear, Anderson .Paak rocked this floral tailored jacket. The Best Melodic Rap Performance winner wore Gucci and embodied the soulful and modern funk vibe presented in his and Bruno Mars’ performance.
Dababy
One of my favorite looks this year, Dababy arrived on the red carpet in head-to-toe Dolce&Gabbana. He added more flare to this floral suit by wearing a shimmering turtleneck as his undershirt. For accessories, Dababy’s included a Dolce&Gabbana brooch, layered diamond necklaces, and big diamond earrings.
All-Black Elegance
While spring is typically a season for brighter colors and florals, that doesn’t mean the color black must disappear. Definitely the most versatile color, black can be classy and/or edgy. Particularly in the springtime, the color can represent simplicity, which can make any outfit chic. These following celebrities approached this season with classic black looks, while still adding their own personal touches.
Phoebe Bridgers
If you’re familiar with Phoebe Bridgers, you may recognize this outfit; her signature on-stage look is a skeleton onesie. This Grammys design is more of an enhanced version. Designed by Thom Browne, Phoebe Bridgers’ look is a fine depiction of edgy and gothic glamour. Embroidered in crystals and pearls, this skeleton gown is clean and perfectly suits Phoebe Bridgers’ style and personality.
Bad Bunny
“Best Latin Pop Album” winner Bad Bunny stepped out in elegance and class with his all-black look. From his Burberry suit to the Bonnie and Clyde inspired sunglasses, Bad Bunny exudes chic high fashion. Bad Bunny added personal charm with his black beanie and a single sunflower.
Harry Styles
My favorite performance look was from Harry Styles himself. He wore a custom Gucci leather cropped jacket with matching flared pants and leather boots. This simple outfit was topped off with an eye-catching fake fur boa, which added a little flash of fun.
Although we could not cover all the impressive red carpet moments at this year’s Grammy Awards show, we did our best to highlight which attendees took their high fashion looks to the next level. These celebrities left us feeling hopeful and inspired for the next season.
