Products for Your Hair Care Journey

If you are like me, you probably don’t embrace your natural hair very often. After years of damaging my hair with excessive amounts of heat from my straightener and curling wand, I finally decided to focus on taking better care of my natural hair. The hardest part about repairing your hair is learning how to love the way your locks look without adding any heat or damaging hair care products. But, you will never know what healthy hair looks like if you don’t start embracing your natural look. The road to repair doesn’t have to be drastic, as it starts with implementing healthier products into your daily hair care routine.

Co-wash is the newest product to add to your hair care regime. Co-washing means you are essentially skipping shampoo and washing the entirety of your hair with a cleansing conditioner “Co-wash” instead. Co-wash is used to avoid the harshness of shampoo without skipping out on replenishing your hair and scalp. Shampoo strips your hair of its natural oils, often leaving it dry and dull with daily use. Co-wash is all about using your scalp’s natural oils to moisturize and nourish your hair all while keeping it feeling clean and refreshed. Using Co-wash allows you to wait longer in-between shampoos and leaves you with hydrated, healthy, and shiny hair. Finding the right Co-wash for you depends on your hair type, so do some research and look to Amazon for an array of (affordable) Co-washes to try out:

How you treat your hair when you are out of the shower contributes greatly to its health. Part of repairing damaged hahir is avoiding heat, and that includes blow-drying. For readers with curly, more textured hair - don’t worry, because it is possible to air-dry your hair without making it extra frizzy! Vogue shares a guide to air-drying hair and recommends using a T-shirt, pillow cover, or microfibre cloth to dry your hair instead of your usual towel. This is because they are softer and more gentle on wet hair. The last couple weeks I have been using a T-shirt to dry my hair after the shower, and I have definitely noticed a difference. Using a T-shirt has left my hair softer and less frizzy by the time it dries. Implementing this idea into your after-shower hair care routine is convenient and cost friendly! Don’t want to use a T-shirt? Try one of these affordable alternatives instead:

Using hair products in between washes is a great way to moisturize hair, control frizz, and avoid excessive washing. Hair oil is a commonly used product after and in between hair washes to nourish and style hair. Oil is great to use when your ends are looking dull or frizzy. The word “oil” might scare people with fine hair away, however cosmopolitan shares there is an oil for every hair type! In fact, Argon oil is noted to be best suited for all hair types. Argan oil works wonders when taming my frizz and controlling my split ends, but it is important to note that little goes a long way! Here is the one I have been using by Shea Moisture:

Repairing your hair takes dedication and time, but it is a rewarding form of self care. Hopefully exploring these nourishing methods will leave you with a hair care routine best suited for you! Have fun trying new restorative products as you embrace what your natural hair has to offer.
