Paloma Fashion Show: A Spring Fling Fashion Thing
Tucked away on Washington Street, a killer scene unfolded as Paloma Park in conjunction with Brasher Media and BYV Trubb hosted their biannual fashion show on April 22nd. MC’ed by William Montu Miller, the show featured musical performances from various Athens and wider local Georgian talent which followed and accompanied each model walk. The outdoor venue was packed with all types of people in the audience, ranging from fashion enthusiasts, local college students that stumbled upon the venue, parents and friends, and everyone in between. The elevated stage was difficult to see even less than 20 ft from the blocked-off runway, but the music and electrifying digital backdrop were hard to miss as the show started.
Tyler Davis (@TYL3R DAVIS), opened the venue as the first model walk of the evening began. Davis was followed by other acts including Hollowbody and Trvy & the Enemy before Convict Julie closed out the night. Brasher Media brought the park to life with aesthetically pleasing graphic backdrops customized to each musical act and the vibes were set with intermissions DJ’ed by Wobble Haus. Montu noted the change in Athen’s music scene from being the heart of indie music to the heart of hip-hop music.
The theme of the show was spring fling, bathing suits, and festival wear. And Rouge Magazine's very own members made star appearances. Lillian Maple (@lhmaplestudio), Director of Writing, designed her own pieces starring Maple’s signature bright colors and prints. All designs featured in the show embodied chic city and streetwear fashion. Denim with distressed detailing and silver hardware like chains and safety pins met destructured neutral, punk fits that contrasted with more bright, structured, sleek looks. Rouge Beauty Editor Taryn Scott led each clothing line up with a strong, ethereal walk. The models, supported by Bold Models, were all amazing and presented a diverse lineup of shapes, sizes and races.
This event was an amazing medium to display local artists in the very heart of Athens, all while supporting various small businesses and bringing together so many people that make up the Athens and UGA community. MC Montu strongly alluded to the excitement that the team was already building for the next Paloma Fashion Show which historically takes place in October and is Halloween-themed—this is definitely an event you won’t want to miss if you find yourself in downtown Athens this fall.
