NYFW Fall/Winter 2022 Styles

SPRING is almost here, and while the weather is still warming up, New York Fashion Week has come and gone. This time honored event did not fail to impress, exhibiting designers and styles to watch out for this fall/winter 2022.

Here are the biggest designers and takeaways from NYFW 2022:

Saint Sintra

Saint Sintra's runway looked a little different this season. Instead of typical costume style garments, we see eccentric and diverse designs, ranging from sleek silk dresses to twinkling tweed sets. Sintra Martins’ extended stay in Florence in 2021 really shines through with this collection, with the shirts, ribbons and other adornments all being custom made in Italy. Her collection had a light color palette; mainly pastels like the lilac and pink seen in her suit designs. It will provide both structured and relaxed silhouette inspo for Fall/Winter 2022. Overall, Saint Sintra provided a wonderful collection that left us wanting more.

Kim Shui

Kim Shui’s collection was a 90s dream. While the sheer tops and clinging asymmetrical dresses with cutouts, lace, sequins – you name it – brought NYC nightlife to the runway, the tweed pieces lined with fur stole the show. Flared pants, corset tops, dresses and bustiers in bright blues, pinks, purples and yellows bring brightness and fun to autumn style (“Clueless” anyone?). The creative designs are sure to inspire future designers for a long time to come, and confirm that preppy and structured outfits are here to stay another season this Fall/Winter 2022.

Khaite

When Khaite launched back in 2016, they were focused on designing essentials. Not much has changed. Their runway collection had a striking outerwear display. Leather trench coats cinched at the waist created sexy silhouettes. Skirts, opaque tights and oversized jackets crafted asymmetrical figures, accentuating the legs. Khaite’s dark neutral tones created sleek looks that had us subscribing to the waitlist for one of their coveted coats.

Eckhaus Latta

Eckhaus Latta is an independent label, known for their artistic and indie approach to fashion. Their pieces, with sheer knits, glittering and slashed in places that left little to the imagination, added cutouts that created interesting silhouettes. Eckhaus Latta is famous for their creativity, and they did not disappoint with their experimental designs this season.

Gabriela Hearst

Gabriela Hearst’s collection caught eyes with its duality: earthy tones and artist Ana Martinez Orizondo’s painting of a tree inspired ponchos paired with double breasted suits, trench coats and leather. Hearst expresses that she has learned a lot about gender constructs from her daughters, saying “...their conceptions of gender are at odds with the more static understanding that her generation grew up with. ‘Kids want to be free,’ she said at a preview. ‘For them, gender is an imposition,’’ (Vogue, 2022). Her men and women’s collections have very little distinction between them, and it shines with the crochet sweaters and tailored suit sets. The patterns and colors in the show were eye-catching, contrasting the darker, more structured designs on the runway this season. Overall, the patchwork of styles and patterns worked well for Hearst, making us excited for fall/winter.

Michael Kors

Michael Kors did not disappoint. The brilliant monochrome sets were eye-catching, ranging from neutral tans and blacks to bright yellows and pinks. Furs, suede boots and sequins were all incorporated into their structured silhouettes, some with clever cutouts. Their versatile collection gives fans the chance to fantasize about outfits perfect for cold mornings and for cold nights out.
