Milan Fashion Week
Milan fashion week continually showcases talented designers who push the boundaries of fashion. Missoni, Prada, Versace, Bottega Veneta, Diesel and many more were on display this week.
This year, Diesel’s venue was outstanding. The floor was covered in gray, white and black material and featured an ombre tree in shades of gray to black. While the venue decor was amazing, their collection was nothing short of spectacular. Diesel showcased many neutral looks that had an exciting twist. Diesel made their looks unique and interesting by using all-leather outfits featuring long fringe in the back and mossy jackets.
Missoni’s show reminds me that fashion is truly art. Filippo Grazioli (the creative director) did an exceptional job of being innovative but also staying true to the core of the brand. The high contrast of colors mixed with the bold silhouettes created a memorable collection. Adding gold statement jewelry really makes the look. Missoni’s always been known for pushing the boundaries and I believe they did just that.
Prada stood out this week with their diverse footwear collection. From pink and silver platform heels to sleek and simple loafers, they had it all. Their footwear collection was reminiscent of trends from the early 2000s and 2010s. On top of that, they brought back Brogues Espadrilles from their Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Prada's clothing featured encapsulating looks with metallics and bold colors, micro tops and shorts, feathers, leather, and skirts with dangling rings. Prada delivered what they always do — beautiful proportions with a funky twist.
As much as I adore Versace, their collection was not as eye-catching as usual. Yes, they had green sequins and yes, they had bold patterns, but many looks were not as original as Versace usually is. For example, while I liked the 70s vibe evoked by chevron patterns, the constant use of chevron has been done so many times before and did not feel updated in this iteration. Donatella Versace has undeniably shaped the brand with her remarkable talent and vision. However, it could be exciting to see a fresh perspective in the creative director role.
On a more positive note, Bottega Veneta stunned with their masterful use of asymmetrical suits. The fringe headdresses are so fresh and really conceptualize couture fashion. Models carrying day-to-day items like flowers, books and grocery bags added contrast to the high fashion look to the entire collection. Their collection was not the only thing that blew me away--their star-studded audience including Jacob Eroldi, A$AP Rocky, Kendall Jenner, and Michelle Yeoh also had people buzzing.
