How to Lose the Dry in 10 Days

Many of us are eagerly awaiting for colder temperatures and the festive fall activities, right? Sadly, my skin is very much unhappy about the recent weather changes, as I have been getting chapped lips and red, irritated skin. While I can blame a good bit of all that on the dry weather, I’m ashamed to say that I am terrible at getting in that token 64 ounces of water every day. Because I abandon skincare in the summer when I am always hydrated, I decided it was time to get back to my routine, and with how fast the air seems to be getting dry this year, I had to act fast.

To combat my irritable skin, I decided to set reminders on my phone for water each hour to make sure I finished two giant water bottles per day, and I planned out my morning and nighttime daily skincare routines. In the morning, after some splashes of cold water, I use The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, and Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%, finishing with CeraVe unscented moisturizer and Dr. Paw Paw Lip Balm. At night, I finish the day with First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser, The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, 100% Plant-Derived Squalane, and ending with 3 drops of The Ordinary’s 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil mixed with my CeraVe moisturizer. PHEW what a mouthful, but my skin felt instant relief — every drop of product and water is worth it!

Before I began my hydration operation, my skin was flakey, patchy, splotchy. After 10 days, I can confidently say that my skin feels nourished, evenly toned, plump and glowing. Clearly, there will be days when I’m running late to work or class and must skip the full routine or days where I am super busy and forget to drink all of my water, but seeing my dry skin transform reminded me of the importance of prioritizing hydration. Not only does my skin feel healthy, my mind and body also feel healthier, and I’ve found I have more energy for schoolwork and other tasks throughout the day.

Being hydrated and taking care of your skin during these dry, cold months is crucial for your body to feel at its best, and I cannot emphasize enough how important and easy it is to add hydration into your daily routine! Remember to drink your water and use that moisturizer today, your skin will love you for it — I promise.
