Halloween Styling Contest
Styling for the magazine was less collaborative this semester due to Covid-19 safety measures, but we wanted to give all of our members a chance to get creative and into the spooky spirit with a Halloween-themed styling competition! All members, regardless of their committee, were invited to get involved and send their best Halloween looks. After the holiday passed, we encouraged our general body members to submit photos of their costumes to show off how they styled their looks this Halloween.
Madison Taylor (Fashion Committee) blew us away with her look inspired by Cleo de Nile from Monster High. While Cleo de Nile is often sporting bright, color-clashing looks, Madison decided to go for a monochrome look that aligned more with her personal style. With the help of Pinterest for additional inspiration, Madison was able to style a truly stunning look—perfect for the holiday. Using gold jewelry she already had, Madison elevated her black two-piece set to create the perfect mummy-meets-runway look. We especially loved her use of gauze as a subtle nod to the classic mummy costume to channel her inner Egyptian goddess. Madison’s gold head-piece and lace-up heels were the perfect complements to complete her look.
Ashlee Bock’s (Digital Content) striking Western-themed get up immediately caught our eyes. Her outfit was a maximalist’s dream— complete with a jaw-dropping use of patterns and textures. Ashlee’s look was inspired by Kendell Jenner’s I.AM.GIA Halloween outfit that she wore in Santa Monica. While Ashlee purchased the top and pants for this occasion, she repurposed items she already had to match Jenner’s accessories. Using an old purse, Ashlee was able to use yarn to transform it to resemble Jenner’s Jimmy Choo. To spice up a cowgirl hat borrowed from her little sister, Ashlee added feathers to take it to the next level and match the over-the-top energy of her look. All of these elements worked together seamlessly to create a fantastic outfit.
We absolutely loved looking through all of the submissions from our members and seeing how everyone dressed up for the holiday. While Halloween may have looked a bit different this year, it did not take away from the fun of some good old-fashioned dress-up. Thanks so much to everyone who participated, we cannot wait to see what you come up with next year!
