Claudia Schiffer Predicted 2021 Fashion Back in the 90s
Claudia Schiffer, the legendary German supermodel, was featured on the 1994 December issue of Vogue. The photoshoot was inspired by the movie Roman Holiday, which starred Audrey Hepburn in 1953, and took place in the streets of Rome. Stylists were able to mix the iconic 50s fashion from the movie with the popular monochromatic trends and colors from the 90s, creating effortless yet elegant looks for the candid photos for millions to enjoy (Vhisine, 2015).
The 90s trend came back in 2020 and is still around in 2021. The younger population has really embraced this trend, and like Claudia Schiffer, has started to blend in fashion pieces from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, making today’s fashion ever changing and very exciting. Though this is a common practice now, the 50s 90s fusion that Claudia Schiffer wore for her photoshoot around The Eternal City, are almost identical to some of the outfits that are being worn today.
In this first outfit, Claudia is dressed in head-to-toe blue. Again, the monochromatic look is constant in all of her outfits, and this trend has made a comeback in the last year. Claudia decided to go for a very clean yet casual look by wearing a cropped blue t-shirt under a matching vintage cardigan. The t-shirt cardigan duo has become a fashion staple in 2021. The high waisted pants have also come back in 2020 and people are loving them. Almost instantly, society made the switch from low and mid-rise cuts to high cuts and now wear high waisted skirts, shorts, jeans, and even sweatpants. Claudia’s pants are a solid color, because that’s what was worn in the 50s, but the straight fit is the same as the pants that are worn today.
In the second outfit, Claudia is wearing a slim sheath bustier-style dress, which was a go-to look in the 50s. The bustier style has been incorporated into long and short sleeve shirts, tank tops, and corsets. Of course, the bustier dress is in high demand today and is a popular outfit choice for going out to dinner or a celebration.
For her final outfit, Claudia shows off another slim sheath dress which is now worn underneath a thin plaid yellow trench coat. The plaid pattern was popular in the 50s and was used mainly in dresses and men’s suits, but a variation of this trench coat has made a comeback in 2021. The oversized flannel and button up shirts have been used in the past year to dress up or dress down an outfit. Flannels and oversized button-down shirts are also very versatile and can be worn over any item of clothing (Sessions, 2014).
