Beauty and Fashion Resolutions for 2020

For all of our goal-oriented, beauty and fashion mavens out there, we’ve compiled a list of beauty and fashioned themed resolutions for 2020. Pick and choose which ones you want to achieve and get ready to make 2020 a fabulous new year!

Clean your makeup brushes!

If you, like most of us, are terrible at keeping up with cleaning your makeup brushes (no matter how important you know it is), make it your resolution to set a cleaning schedule for your brushes in 2020. Pick a day of the week, like Sunday maybe, when you know you’ll most likely have the time to get it done!

ALWAYS take your makeup off before bed!

If you’re still falling into bed with makeup on sometimes, you NEED to make this a resolution. It’s time to start treating your skin better! Going to bed with makeup still on is likely to make you break out and will do your skin no favors. Make it a priority to clean it all off before bed, no matter how tired you are.

Create a skincare routine and stick to it!

In the same vein, if you don’t already have one, make a skincare routine. Do a weekly mask, wash your face, always moisturize, and treat your skin with care— you’ll thank yourself in 10 years.

Stop picking at/biting your nails!

This is a tough one and may not be a habit that you’ll be able to kick quickly. If you’re a cuticle picker, invest in a good cuticle cream or oil to keep your cuticles healthy and moisturized. If they’re not dry and peeling, you won’t have anything to pick at!

When it comes to nail-biting, that’s usually one of the hardest habits for anyone to get rid of. Keeping your nails neatly trimmed short and painted may help to curb your biting, but if that’s not working and it’s a habit you really want to beat, do some research into different methods and see which one works for you.

Dress up every day!

If you have a closet full of cute clothes that you wish you wore more often, you might want to dedicate yourself to not wearing gym/lounge clothes when you go out in 2020. We’re all guilty of just wearing sweats to class or the grocery store sometimes, but if you’re missing wearing your cute clothes, make this your resolution! Any easy way to encourage yourself to get more dressed up is to have your outfit picked out the night before. Once you take the hard part out of it, you might be less tempted to reach for your favorite sweatshirt in the morning.

Don’t buy!

For the shopaholics out there, consider getting more intentional with your shopping in 2020. There are tons of ways you can do this. You can try not buying anything new for the first three months of 2020 or maybe limiting yourself to only buying a maximum of 3 new things each month. However you choose to do it, your wallet will appreciate getting a break next year!

Only buy second-hand!

If you’re looking to change your shopping habits but are not a chronic over-shopper, you could try buying exclusively second-hand. Second-hand shopping is more sustainable and more of a challenge. Make 2020 your year of intentional shopping!

Learn more about sustainable fashion!

In 2019, the sustainable fashion trend really took off. If you’re still not really “in the know” about it, this year might be a good time to catch up and educate yourself about how the fashion world and consumer expectations are changing. You might be surprised by what you learn about some of your favorite brands! Some good places to start are:

  1. True Cost, the documentary by Andrew Morgan

  2. The Conscious Chatter Podcast
