All the Fall Feels
Using autumn hues to transition a beachy glow into fall
School is mostly online, so I took a trip to the beach to work on school, remote work, and my hair and makeup (duh!) from the comfort of a seaside condo. Check out the look I created to seamlessly transition from the sun-soaked beach into a warm, autumn vibe. Then, stick around for a skincare tip at the end!
First, let’s start with these beach waves. I prefer completing my hair before my makeup because I don’t want the makeup to smudge or melt. It also gives my hair time to cool down and set.
Supplies: Hair straightener, hairspray, hairbrush
Steps:
Brush your hair and section it in half down the middle. Make sure you brush through both sides so it’s tangle-free! It’ll be easier to curl this way.
I start with the pieces of hair framing my face, take a small section of hair (about the width of a penny) and heat it under the iron, twisting away from my face. Only go about ⅔ of the way down your hair so you can keep the ends straight— this is important for a beautiful beachy wave!
Because you’re framing your face, each section should twist away from your face. I typically do the second piece back facing that same direction, and after that, I alternate the direction of my waves twisting toward and away from my face until I’ve finished each side. Don’t brush out the waves yet!
After curling each piece in alternating directions, I straighten the ⅓ of the bottom I left out. At this point, your hair should look very sectioned and maybe slightly frizzy, but trust the process!
After the hair is fully cooled, spray your whole head with your hairspray of choice (I personally use Suave Max Hold), making sure to scrunch the curls from the bottom.
Once the hairspray has dried, use your fingers to brush through the curls, separating them and shaking them out. I also flip my hair upside down after this, just to give the look more volume.
At this point, your curls should look just like they do pictured above! You can now touch up any pieces and appreciate your beautiful beach waves.
Next, I move on to the makeup. Of course, I loosely tie my hair back with a scrunchie, just to keep it out of the way.
Supplies (this is what I use, you can use whichever brand and shades of these products that work best for you!) Maybelline: Dream BB Cream, City Bronzer, Cheek Heat Blush, Master Chrome Highlighter, Lasting Fix Loose Setting Powder, Brow Extensions Eyebrow Filler, Snapscara Mascara, Color Strike Eyeshadow Pen, Glass Setting Spray, Lifter Gloss. Morphe: Maddie Ziegler Imagination Eyeshadow Palette
Steps:
First, I apply my BB cream with my hands like a lotion. I rub it all over my face and down my neck. I prefer to use a BB cream with SPF in it because that’s what’ll keep your skin looking young, babes!
Next, I use a fluffy brush to apply bronzer around the outer edges of my face and under the cheekbones to give a warm glow and contour.
I use my two index fingers to blend in my cream blush to my cheekbones and up to my temples, about the same place you would apply highlighter. I also make sure to get the tip of my nose to add a rosy glow!
After the blush, I fill in my eyebrows using an eyebrow crayon. Always be sure not to fill them in too much, especially near the front of the brow. It’s also helpful not to fill in with a shade that is too dark. You want it to look natural!
Time for the eyes! I start with the darkest color and blend it in the outer corners of my eyes with a blending brush. I blend out in circles away from the eye—not down—so the color flows away from the eyes. This makes them look bigger and brighter as opposed to blending the shadow under the eye.
Once the dark color looks even on both sides, I use the same brush with a lighter, sparkly shade and blend it on top of the lid and into the edge of the darker shade. I use this same shade to highlight the inner corners of my eyes.
I used a brown eyeshadow pen to lightly add a wing to the edges of my eye— just enough to make a subtle, cat-eye difference. If the line goes on too dark, no worries! Just use the same blending brush and blend it out, away from the eye.
After perfecting the eyeshadow, I apply mascara. I prefer to evenly coat both sides of the lashes for maximum length and darkness. Be sure to coat the bottom lashes, too!
Now, I use a flat brush to apply highlighter to my cheekbones, the tip of my nose, my chin, and the arch of my brows. If you use too much, just use a fluffy brush to lightly brush over the shine.
Finally, I set the look using setting powder all over my face and neck. I apply the glass spray on top for a dewy glow—because dewy at the beach always works!
This last step is optional, but I used tinted gloss to slightly over-line my lips and give them a subtle hint of color to match the eyes.
