Wearable Runway Trends for Fall

Fall is the time for sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, and new fashion trends for the cold weather. Runway trends are not always attainable or wearable for everyday life, but it is possible to get creative with how you interpret these trends. It’s fun to transform runway trends into your everyday looks, and fashion admirers get excited each season to see what they’ll be working with. I would say the most wearable yet adventurous trends to try out for this fall season are tulle, saturated and bright colors, and feathers.

On the runway, we saw designers such as Molly Goddard and Bora Aksu showing looks with tulle dresses and skirts.Goddard presented a variety of looks that incorporated more dressed-down tulle by adding a sweater or jacket as a layering piece. Other looks were formal tulle dresses and skirts that had dramatic bottoms. Bora Asku showed more feminine and regal-looking designs that incorporated tulle fabrics. Asku used other accents such as plaid and tailored jackets to elevate his tulle designs.

A brand that has really captured the elegance and unique qualities of tulle is Selkie. They have created a more romanticized version of the tulle dress, using dramatic sleeves and feminine silhouettes. The brand also has recently extended sizing up to 5X.

Designers such as Balmain and Christian Siriano were bringing on bright and saturated colors in their runway looks. Balmain and Christian Siriano designs were fully saturated and monochromatic. Balmain’s designs were more aviation and travel-inspired, while Christian Siriano’s designs were more glamorous and high-fashion.

Creating a monochromatic look is very attainable and possible this fall season. Brands such as Revolve, ASOS, Nasty Gal, and many more have monochromatic looks that may be the perfect addition to your wardrobe, and they won’t break the bank. I find that this trend is very accessible and easy to achieve. A saturated suit or dress will be the perfect statement for the season.

On the runway, we’ve seen designers such as Elie Saab and 16 Arlington both use feathers in subtle and bold ways. Elli Saab mostly concentrated feathers on the shoulder, which kept the designs sleek and polished. The color palette in the collection consisted of more neutral tones, with highly-structured garments creating interest. 16 Arlington on the other hand went all out and implemented feathers as the main statement of their show. The collection implemented interest through pops of metallic fabrics, feathers, and plaid. The color palette of the collection was kept on the more basic side to accommodate for all of the embellishments.

Feathers this season have really taken center stage, and they could be a solid contender with faux fur this season. We see a wide variety of brands such as Nasty Gal, Revolve, Fashion Nova, and Boohoo creating garments with feathers that are wearable and make similar high-fashion statements. The garments range from being extremely casual, like a matching pajama set, to more formal and extravagant like a floor-length feather gown.

These are only a few of the most prominent trends for this season. Keep looking out for new fall trends to get creative with! And don’t let the runway intimidate your style.
