Playing with Pastels
For Spring 2021, pastels are taking over as their own trend rather than simply a color range. Adding some pastels to your wardrobe this season is the perfect trend to hop on because they aren’t conducive to an aesthetic in the slightest. You can incorporate them into a more minimal aesthetic by adding a single pastel pop of color, throw on a light pink baby tee for a 2000s-inspired look, or add a pastel belt with a band shirt and docs for a classic grunge look. For some fresh inspiration, Zara's Spring 2021 collection provides a display of preppy pastels to pull from. By sprinting to your closest Zara you can easily achieve that fun, trendy, and preppy look. If you’re more of a free spirited, 70s-inspired type, then check out House of Sunny for all their gorgeous psychedelic pastel prints.
Besides the fact that pastels are not exclusive to a specific aesthetic or person, pastels are the best way to transition between seasons. We’re all dying to be in our cute spring frocks, yet Athens has been giving us colder days. Don’t let the bipolar weather patterns throw you off, because throwing on a pastel sweater with cut-offs and booties can make for the perfect spring-inspired, weather-friendly fit. Layering is always the answer, and by color-blocking your pastels, you can brighten up any outfit and be prepared for any climate. Throw on a light blouse with a pastel sweater vest on top, and add a flirty spring skirt for an ideal day-to-night look.
Pastels are easily dressed up and down too - this simple purple mini dress is a perfect example. You can put on some chunky espadrilles for an easy evening look, or throw on your favorite sneakers with this dress to grab lunch with friends.
Pastels can be fun and flirty while being practical. A few sites that I’ve found featuring some gorgeous pastel pieces include the previously mentioned Zara and House of Sunny, as well as LoveshackFancy, Ronny Kobo, Rococo Sand, and For Love & Lemons.
Chances are, like most of us, you're not willing to shop for your spring wardrobe from these more expensive sites, but they are perfect for style inspo or maybe special occasion pieces. For everyday, more affordable options, definitely check out Cider, Verge Girl , Urban Outfitters, and Mango. Don’t forget to shop local at thrift stores and small businesses such as @_mondoverde on Instagram, a page that sells handmade tops created from recycled fabrics pictured above.
Happy shopping and go dress yourself in a rainbow of pastels this season. And if you try a new pastel outfit or get your fit inspo from any of the styles or websites listed above, post a pic to your story and tag @rouge.mag for a chance to be featured!
