Get Your Glow On
An easy, fresh, and natural-looking makeup look you can wear all year long, with additional skincare tips for a major glow!
Like everybody else, I’ve spent a lot more time at home the past few months, so I began focusing on skincare more and paid attention to the types of makeup I was using for my (really) dry skin. Once I had that covered, it was easy to create a glowy look that was also good for my skin!
Follow along to read about some skincare tips for normal to dry skin that will keep you looking radiant all year long. Then, jump into the hair and makeup tutorials!
MAKEUP
I use rose oil as a healthy, natural, long-lasting, and moisturizing base. Plus, it smells really lovely! It keeps the skin glowy, but it needs time to absorb and set.
I start by dotting my face with the foundation wherever I have some discoloration or dry skin and blend it in lightly with a fluffy blush. This foundation has SPF in it too, which is important for keeping skin healthy and young.
Then, I use the concealer underneath my eyes to cover any darkness. I also use the concealer on my eyelids as a base for the eyeshadow to provide a bright, fresh base. ! Blend with your fingers by tapping the product in lightly instead of rubbing, which can create wrinkles.
I have short lashes, so I curl mine at this point. This step makes me look alive after I’ve spent an entire day in bed!
The next step is setting the lash curl with mascara. I apply about three to four layers because the formula is thin, which adds lots of length and volume!
My brow product is my holy grail and secret weapon! It helps me get a thicker brow with a microbladed texture that still has a natural look. Apply it layer by layer, letting it dry in between coats. Apply more or less depending on how dark and thick your natural brows are. Neat and natural-looking brows frame your face!
This next step is optional, but it makes this look more versatile because it can be excluded and still look just as great. When I want a bit of “oomph” in my cheekbones, I use the contour stick on the hollows of my cheeks and blend it in with the foundation brush. Using the same brush will help everything blend together nicely and look flawless! Use the contour stick to draw one inch ticks to connect your cheekbones along your hairline. From here, blend the lines together with the foundation brush. You can also use highlighter on the sides of the nose near the tear ducts for a brighter finish.
I get some of the contour product on my finger and lightly blend it into the outer half of my crease. Using the same color for the contour and eyeshadow creates a more unified look. I also like to keep my makeup products to a minimum, so having multiple uses for the same product is important to me!
Blush is a girl’s second best friend after diamonds. I love to use the same foundation brush (again— great for blending!) to lightly sweep over the color from the cream blush stick. Pat and blend this pigment into the outer parts of your cheekbones upwards and diagonally towards the hairline. Be careful not to bring this color in any closer than a third of the way under where your eye begins for a sneaky way to contour the cheeks!
I’m a Carmex addict and I wear it pretty much all the time. Top this glowy look off with Carmex or any other glossy lip balm to keep your lips juicy.
That’s it! This look is easy and fast, and I love the glowy skin this look gives me. The rose oil also helps to keep the look naturally moisturized for shine that lasts all day long! I love this makeup look because you can customize the fanciness and color of the final look you’re going for and you can always change it up.
HAIR
This is my go-to hair style! I use a couple products to get messy, bouncy curls that are light and fun.
I use a style extender before I start curling my hair to keep my curls looking fresh. Put a penny-sized amount into your palms and rub the cream between your fingers. Gently work the product into your hair, making sure to get the product onto every strand.
Separate your hair into sections to make it easier to work with. If you have layers like me, it’s important to do this and curl pieces of the same lengths together to give it an undone and messy vibe.
Once the style extender has dried and the curling iron has heated to the highest temperature, I start curling from the bottom of my head and work my way up through the sections.
Take half inch sections and wrap the hair from the roots to about an inch from the ends. Keeping the bottom inch straight gives more texture and body to the look! For volume to the max, curl sections alternating towards and away from your face. Make sure to curl the pieces closest to your face outwards to frame your beautiful, glowy makeup look.
The cherry on top is this texturizing spray that literally changed my life. Spray this product for a couple seconds all the way up and down your hair while holding pieces straight up. Run your fingers through your hair to work in the product for an “I woke up like this” moment.
SKINCARE TIP
As the temperature begins to drop during these chillier fall months, it’s important to keep your skin super hydrated to avoid flaky, dry skin and unwanted dullness. As I mentioned before, I love to use rose oil as a transition product from skincare that quickly goes into overtime to moisturize my skin and keep my makeup dewy. Aside from the rose oil, there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes that keeps my skin smooth during this time of year. Exfoliation is a big part of my skincare routine, and I like to use both physical and chemical exfoliants, depending on what kind of skin issues I’m deadline with. If your skin feels ashy and in need of a soothing deep treatment that’ll reinvigorate your skin, I recommend reaching for the St. Ives Gentle Smoothing Oatmeal Scrub and Mask. On days where you need something stronger that’ll work hard to remove dead skin cells and other gunk on your face, I would reach for the Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser. I feel a noticeable difference after using both of these products, which keep my skin plump and glowy, all season long!
