Yes to Neons!

I’ve seen it all from the orange of the fall to the green of the summer, but my favorite color is neon
— Chris Young

I simply have to agree. Neons in the winter have typically been something the population has steered clear of, but this fall and winter it’s all the rage. We started seeing this back in March during the Fall/Winter ‘21 runway shows. Since then, I have found myself noticing various websites from Free People to Nordstrom advertising neon winter pieces. I was a bit confused at first, but then had to stop and think — since when did I let a calendar dictate when I can or cannot wear something? Often we have found ourselves sticking to the traditional “rules” that have been passed down to us. Don't wear white after Labor day! Florals are for the spring! No bright colors in the winter! And the list of restrictive rules goes on. While people can find these pieces intimidating and difficult to style without giving the ‘80s dad vibe, here I have 4 ways to style neons this fall and winter.

Cozy and Bright

My default winter outfit consists of 3 things. Black boots, black jeans, and a chunky sweater that engulfs me. Instead of opting for your traditional cream-colored sweater, you can add a pop of color with a neon knit. Pair any of these with your favorite boots and jeans to shake things up.

Details Matter

If you are not quite comfortable yet making a bold statement, no worries. Integrate small pops of neon into your day-to-day outfits. By adding a bold earring, scarf, beanie, or shoe, you can test the trend in a more subtle manner. This could be beneficial if you have a minimalist or toned-down style, but you still want to make a statement.

Go Monochrome

Now on the completely other side of the spectrum, we have monochrome. We have seen monochrome everywhere since the ‘50s and ‘60s when designers like Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent started presenting monochromatic suits. We see it today on our favorite celebrities walking the streets of New York in the same color head-to-toe. What's perfect about the monochromatic look is you can wear it with as many or a few layers as you’d like, so no matter how warm or cool your seasons might be, this styling method can be altered at any time of the year.

Bold Outerwear

Trade in your black puffer this season for a jacket that will light up the dark and cold winter streets. A bold jacket is another perfect way to ease into the neon trend. Pair it with a simple neutral outfit to really make it pop, allowing the jacket to be the center of attention.

Don't be afraid to turn up the heat this winter by incorporating  pieces like this into your wardrobe. While Neons can be a lot to work with, they work as a simple way to spice up your day-to-day looks. Whether it's just another day in the office or a fun night out, adding a warm bright pop of color is sure to get you through these upcoming cold winter months.
