Bringing Fashion to Football: The Unique Culture of the SEC

Fall and the start of the first semester bring many things: move in, new classes and reuniting with friends. But perhaps one of the biggest things it brings is college football season, a Southern tradition unlike any other. At the University of Georgia, football is taken very seriously. However, in recent years, it is not just the game that is being taken seriously – it's the fashion as well. Gone are the days of jerseys and jeans; attendees now see UGA football games as nothing less than a fashion show.

Flowy Fun

Adding a unique element to a simple piece is a tried-and-true way to elevate your outfit. Georgia fans have taken this idea and run with it, with a big trend this year being fringe. Simple, solid-colored outfits are taken up a notch with this fun, flowy design. Extra points for the twirl factor.

Dots and Stripes Galore

Patterns are a fun way for fans to incorporate multiple UGA colors and wear something a little different. Black, white and red can get boring, and patterns offer a unique twist on these colors that we all probably have too much of in our closets. Specifically, this year, polka dots and gingham have been popular choices.

The Fall Palette

A new trend that has been emerging is the increased wear of neutrals that are not necessarily UGA colors. Tans, browns and creams have become part of the normal gameday fashions, allowing fans more freedom when looking for an outfit. These colors are especially stylish as the weather moves into the chillier fall months.

Accessorizing to the Max

A longtime tradition, gameday stickers and pins are just a part of the UGA and broader SEC football culture. Attendees will wear accessories showing their sorority affiliation, the college they are studying in, political affiliations or just plain old UGA spirit. Stickers and pins allow fans to show organizations they are proud to be in, their personal views and their obvious love for the Dawgs.
