Rouge’s Valentine’s Day Tunes

When I was tasked with creating a Valentine’s Day playlist, I couldn’t help but wonder, has a more controversial holiday ever existed? Considering the huge divide among the population (or at least, my friends) between love and hate for February 14th, I’m going to go with no! So, it was only natural that I created two playlists: one for the love birds, and another for the free birds. 

Finding yourself woefully single happily independent on Valentine’s? See yourself to Free Birds, where you’ll find You’re So Vain by Carly Simon, Drake’s Marvin’s Room (for the Valentine’s Day anxious), and of course, Truth Hurts by Lizzo. My apologies if you’re feeling too empowered. But if you’re wifed up? I think you might love Love Birds, which is spearheaded by Al Green’s My Girl (ugh, a classic!), a tear-jerking Last One I Love by Marc E. Bassy, and naturally, Our Song by Taylor Swift. 

Both playlists are helped by a heavy dose of Beyonce, just, very different Beyonce eras! Love Birds draws from her early, falling-for-JayZ days (hello, Love on Top!), while Free Birds boasts, like, the entire Lemonade album. 

There’s no right or wrong way to celebrate V Day, and no matter which party you’re apart of, you’re bound to find some bops on both playlists. Perhaps just don’t listen too closely to the lyrics.
